Laser Dentistry
At Sandalwood Dental we strive to provide you with the latest in dental technology. In this regard, we have recently added a Zap soft tissue diode laser to our practice. We are excited to expand the scope of our treatment plans at Sandalwood with the help of our laser. What this means to you, the patient, is that we are now able to offer many additional procedures in-house without a referral.
One such procedure is a gingivoplasty often referred to as a "gum lift." This is a relatively simple treatment that can have profound impact on your life. If you have always been self-conscious of your gummy smile, do yourself a favor and ask us how we can help. In many cases, the laser allows us to contour your gums without the need for any cutting or sutures. The laser also improves healing time and reduces post-operative discomfort while reducing bacteria. Additionally, our laser allows us to treat sensitive teeth and painful ulcers.
We strongly support technology that improves the patient experience. We are also able to safely and easily remove numerous soft tissue lesions and perform frenectomies which are often required for braces or dentures. Many times we are able to use merely a topical gel and the power of the laser instead of a shot and a blade.
Another benefit of incorporating a soft tissue laser into our practice is more accurate crown and bridge work. The most critical part of your crown or bridge is referred to as the margin, where the crown and your natural tooth meet. In the past, we would use a string which was placed down under the gums to give us an accurate impression and therefore an accurate crown. Unfortunately, the placement of that string can be somewhat uncomfortable even with anesthesia. Today, with our Zap laser, we simply trace around your tooth which clears a space for our impression material as well as disinfecting the gums. The result? A better impression and a better crown with less discomfort.
